Platypus

By: Landon Enns

Food

Platypuses are carnivores. They eat insects, larvae, shellfish and worms. Even though they have no teeth, little pieces of gravel help them to chew. Platypuses usually hunt underwater.

Habitat

Platypuses live in the eastern and southern coasts of australia. They live in freshwater or under rock ledges.

Reproduction

Platypuses are mammals that lay eggs. When female platypuses want to lay eggs they dig up a burrow. Their eggs hatch after 10-15 days. Baby platypuses stay with their mother for 3-4 months and they cannot swim.

Looks Like

Platypuses have webbed feet and a duck bill. They also have brown soft fur and sharp nails. Platypuses have tails like beavers. Males are venomous

Fun Facts

Some people say platypuses look like seals. One shot of venom can kill a

dog but thankfully it is not affective to humans. Platypuses are not

 endangered.
